Alab 2025: A Celebration of Filipino Language and Culture at GreatWork

This August, GreatWork ignited the spirit of celebration with Alab 2025, a community event honoring Buwan ng Wika, the Philippines’ annual tribute to the richness of the Filipino language, culture, and heritage.

Held at GreatWork Mega Tower in Ortigas and GreatWork Studio in Quezon City, the community event brought together professionals from diverse industries and nationalities. Tenants and visitors took a break from their busy workday to embrace the Filipino way of celebrating: with colorful banderitas, a feast of native delicacies, and a fun experience of classic Pinoy games.

Experiencing Filipino Tradition

Every August, the Philippines observes Buwan ng Wika (National Language Month), a nationwide celebration to recognize the Filipino language and the cultural diversity it represents. It is a celebration that reminds us of how language unites communities and give every Filipino a sense of identity and pride.

Through Alab 2025, GreatWork brought the Filipino fiesta into their branches, giving their diverse clients —Filipinos and foreigners alike—the chance to immerse themselves in and gain deeper appreciation of the Filipino language and culture, while fostering camaraderie and connections within the GreatWork community.

Guests were treated to a spread of native delicacies like bibingka, sapin-sapin, kutsinta, and kalamay, paired with refreshing gulaman offering a complete the Filipino merienda experience.

The celebrations also featured few classic Pinoy childhood games:

• Sungka – A traditional Filipino strategy board game played with small shells or stones.

• Jackstone – A classic childhood game where players toss and catch jacks while bouncing a small rubber ball.

• Bugtong-bugtong – A Filipino riddle game that often uses clever wordplay and cultural references.

• Hulaan ang Litrato (Guess the Photo) – A guessing game where participants identify objects based on photos of deep or rarely used Filipino words.

  
  

And what is a Filipino party without a raffle! Special gifts and prizes were given away to lucky winners who participated in all the activities, making the event even more fun and memorable.
